Perception of an Inclusive Society....
In every mission settles a sense of realization, once it transcends successfully from the threshold point. Undaunted and passionate philanthropic work by my father Shri Bhabesh Majumder, had aptly initiated me to socially dedicated charitable work – undeniably the true precursor to what little Sudhangshubala Foundation has accomplished today. Very soon I realized that structured charitable programmes with efficient governance have to replace spontaneous benevolence, to address effective implementation; only then can benefits be ensured to rightful under privileged, supportive assistance to deprived and meritorious, donations to reach distressed areas and challenging sections of society.
Today, we support and encourage capable and meritorious students from economically underprivileged families to fulfill their aspirations of higher education. The Foundation offers full financial assistance to students who get admitted to Government Medical Colleges and those admitted to Government Nursing Schools/Colleges. Presently, the Foundation bears all expenses of 23 such bright students from economically challenged families in Nadia, and proposes 21 more from Andaman and Nicobar Islands as well, to fulfill their aspiration of becoming doctors.
Upholding our faith in gender equality as enshrined in our Constitution we believe that education of the girl child, is the key to women’s empowerment. On lines of the National Mission for Empowerment of Women (NMEW) initiated in the country in 2012, our Foundation has decided to assist girl school students, from economically challenged families, so that they do not drop out of school but continue studying. By gifting cycles to female students, the Foundation ensures that the girls do not have to either walk long distances to school or bear any additional transportation cost, We have plans to monitor their progress through school administration committees and thereafter train them with self-supportive skills quite in line with our scheme of donating sewing machines to economically challenged widows so that they too are financially independent.
The Trust celebrates the visionary Swami Vivekananda’s birthday at its Krishnanagar centre, Nadia and Netaji’s birth day at Port Blair centre, Andaman & Nicobar Islands through awards of merit, inspiring incentives and charitable donations pertaining to its multi-faceted benevolent schemes. Encouragement in sports activity to thwart encroaching influence of drugs and narcotic consumption among young generation at the Islands, has been yet another commendable step taken up by Sudhangshubala Foundation, as part of the Youth Development initiative; the popular volleyball tournament, Sudhangshubala Memorial Cup has been greeted with a stupendous response by the sports loving gentry of Andaman and Nicobar.
Strategically partnering with global corporate house, the Foundation is all set to introduce many vocational Skill Development Centres across the country for young persons to make them technically adept and financially independent. The Foundation is expected to assume the role of a value-added providing Partner at Andaman & Nicobar Islands, in the Common Services Centres Programme, a strategic digital empowerment initiative of the National e-Governance Plan. The CSCs would provide high quality and cost-effective video, voice and data content and services, in the areas of e-governance, education, health, telemedicine, entertainment, agriculture, as well as other private services.
I thank Shri Satyabrata Dutta, a trustee, the most dedicated and dynamic force behind all regular activities and all my colleagues who are working tirelessly to fulfill our goals. I express my profound gratitude to my father, Shri Bhabesh Majumder, whose invaluable guiding spirit and benevolent nature has helped to translate my dreams about the Foundation into a vibrant and determined destination.
